Book Review: My Brief History by Stephen Hawking

My Brief HistoryMy Brief History by Stephen Hawking
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Being an admirer of Stephen Hawking, and his work in the area of physics and cosmology in particular, it was a pleasant experience to read a first-hand account of the illustrious physicist's life- a welcome relief from some of those not-so-forgiving tabloid stories of his earlier life. There are quite a few interesting facts about him in the book that makes it a delightful read. It also contains details about his academic pursuits in a chronological manner and how his interests turned into his career. The book contains many photographs from his early childhood, with his family and friends and also from later stages of his life. The cover photo is of the boat club members' in a playful mood where Stephen was a coxswain. Now go figure that!
There is a whole chapter dedicated to his widely successful book "A Brief History of Time" where he tries to analyse the reason behind its success. He also laments the fact that he was at fault for not explaining the concept of "Imaginary Time" in greater detail which apparently, was one of the topics that most readers had a hard time in comprehending. Luckily for those readers, Stephen Hawking makes amends by including a chapter about it on this book. Another highlight was the chapter on Time Travel which has been one of the most-talked about topic in popular science fiction for a long time. So is Time Travel possible? I'm not spilling the beans here. Read it to find out! :P
